Dr. Pagel is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and has been involved in the study of brain electrical fields for more than 45 years. Among the first to propose that physiological electrical fields had functional roles in cognitive processing, he is the primary author of more than 150 scientific publications including four authored and four edited books, including: Primary Care Sleep Disorders: A Practical Guide, Humana Press (2007); The Limits of Dream - A Scientific Exploration of the Mind / Brain Interface, Academic Press (2008); and Dreams and Nightmares, Sleep Medicine Review (2010). He authored and edited the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) training programs on sleep apnea, infant, child adolescent (overall pediatric editor), and women's sleep disorders, and is past chair of the AASM education committee. In 2005, with Tori Nielsen, he developed the first diagnostic code for Nightmare Disorder (ICD 10) (19), and was overall chair of the 2012 National Sleep Foundation, Sleep Health and Safety Meeting.
