James Caswell Coggins
James Caswell Coggins was born on March 3, 1865 in Swannanoa, Buncombe County, North Carolina. He served as the first President of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, North Carolina (1902-1904), as a State Representative in the General Assembly for Washington County (1917-1918), maintained a law practice in Plymouth, North Carolina (1913-1918), and was an ordained minister in The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). James Caswell Coggins was born on March 3, 1865 in Swannanoa, Buncombe County, North Carolina. He served as the first President of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, North Carolina (1902-1904), as a State Representative in the General Assembly for Washington County (1917-1918), maintained a law practice in Plymouth, North Carolina (1913-1918), and was an ordained minister in The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He had several earned degrees from Christian University in Canton, Missouri, Bethany College in West Virginia, and other colleges and universities, and he continued lecturing at educational institutions in the United States, Mexico, and Honduras well into his 80s. An earlier version of this book appeared in 1927 under the title, Abraham Lincoln a North Carolinian. Coggins authored numerous other books, mostly on religious topics. He died on July 9, 1958 and was buried in Johnson City, Tennessee. See less
