He received his undergraduate degree at Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (India) and his MSc and PhD degrees at University of California, Berkeley (USA). He was previously Director of Microelectronics Center of North Carolina and Director of Division of Materials Research at the National Science Foundation.
