Sir James Matthew Barrie lived from 1860 to 1937. Born and raised in Scotland, he later moved to London where he became a successful writer of plays and novels. While in London, Barrie met the Llewelyn Davies family, who inspired him to write Peter Pan or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up . Peter Pan first appeared as a play in London in 1904, and was developed into a novel in 1911. Before his death, Barrie gave the rights to Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
