Hugh Richards received a B.S. in geology from Oberlin College, an M.F.A. in ¬lmmaking from the University of Washington, and an M.S. in the economics of natural resources from the University of Alaska, specializing in ¬sheries economics and valuation of indigenous peoples subsistence activities. He has ten years experience in forensic economics, dealing mostly with lost earnings, non-market services (including the widespread Alaskan practice of providing well-being for one's family through hunting, ¬shing, ¬rewood, etc.) and retirement bene¬ts; and he has been proprietor of Economic Consultants of the North since 1994. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Association of Forensic Economists, the American Academy of Economic and Financial Experts, the Western Economic Association, and the American Economic Association.
