Hugh Ryan is Principle Consultant at McLaren Consulting and Emeritus Professor at the University of Sunderland, UK. Before moving to academia in 1985, he was Head of Research at Reyrolle Technology, managing major programmes. This was followed by a period as Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Director of Engineering Research at the University of Sunderland, UK. For many years he was also heavily involved in BSI and IEC Standards work, Professional Accreditation and Subject Reviews for IET and QAA respectively, and in Peer Research Appraisals for DTI and EPSRC. He has published more than 190 papers and has contributed to several text books. Hugh is a fellow of the IET and IOP and is a CIGRE Distinguished Member and Freeman of the City of London.
