Holly Powell began her casting career in New York casting off-off Broadway theater. She had the good fortune to become the go-to New York casting person any time a casting director came in from Los Angeles to cast a film, movie-of-the-week or pilot. CBS hired her to be Director of Casting East Coast and then transferred her to Los Angeles to take over the job as Director of Casting Movies and Miniseries. Holly next partnered with Randy Stone, forming Stone Powell Casting, and they won an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Casting for a Miniseries or a Special" for casting The Incident, starring Walter Matthau. Bob Greenblatt and David Janollari hired Holly to be their Senior Vice President of Talent and Casting for the Greenblatt Janollari Studio, and they had five series on the air their first year as a studio, including Six Feet Under by Alan Ball. Holly later partnered with Liz Melcher forming Powell Melcher Casting where they cast cult favorites The Twilight Zone and The 4400. She made the transition from casting to teaching forming Holly Powell Studios in Los Angeles, an audition studio for actors, and quickly won The Backstage Readers' Choice Award For Favorite Audition Technique Teacher two years in a row.
