Herb Smith grew up in southwest Iowa, the setting for The Eggstone Murders, and lived there through his high school years. He knows the territory and the people well. He graduated from college in Idaho and set out to be a teacher, pursuing various other kinds of work and travel as well. Herb Smith grew up in southwest Iowa, the setting for The Eggstone Murders, and lived there through his high school years. He knows the territory and the people well. He graduated from college in Idaho and set out to be a teacher, pursuing various other kinds of work and travel as well. He lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt, for several years, then moved on to other places in the Middle East and around the world. His adventures took him, finally, to Oregon, where he lives with his wife, Glenda, in retirement, and where he has written all his books, many dealing with life in Cairo and the Middle East. His most recent interest, however, has been the recreation of life in Southwest Iowa in the mid-twentieth century. See less
