She lived for a decade in China, where she tried her best to multi-task, as mum, journalist and Mandarin student, as well as holding down a job in human rights. Her love of the environment came into sharp focus in Beijing, where clean air, trees and grass were all too rare. Helen is a southerner, born and brought up in Slough, long before its already unsavoury reputation nose-dived with The Office. She now enjoys life in the North with her husband, a Yorkshireman who's been able to explain some of his county's more unusual words and traditions. They have two children. See less
