Hector G. Balcazar, MS, PhD, grew up in Mexico and later worked in five US universities after completing his graduate degrees from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.Dr. Balcazar has extensive experience as a leader in public health education, research, service, and community outreach working with community health workers. Dr. Balcazar specialized in the study of public health problems of Latinos/Mexican Americans.Dr. Balcazar is bilingual: Spanish/English. He is a public health scientist who has conducted numerous studies. These studies include topics such as acculturation and health related behaviors, including the study of bicultural families. Additional studies include cardiovascular disease prevention programs in Latinos/Mexican Americans and border health issues. Dr. Balcazar has over 180 publications, including 103 peer-reviewed journal articles.Dr. Balcazar is retired and lives with his wife in Mexico. They have three grown sons.
