During the first year of my tenure as the dean of technology at Technical Career Institutes (TCI), I spoke with human resource personnel from more than 20 companies that hired the college's graduates. Each company representative praised the technical abilities of the TO students, but indicated that the students needed to improve their social skills and their understanding of an organization's operation. The department chairs and I discussed the type of course that would help our students, and the outline for this book evolved.
