Chief Walker (ret) is a 30-year fire service veteran. After his fire career, he joined the faculty of Western Illinois University where he served as an associate professor and program director of the Fire Studies Program. In addition to degrees in Fire Science, Fire Administration, and Organization Development, he is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program. While at Western, he joined the curriculum committee for the Fire & Emergency Services Higher Education Association. There, he developed a keen interest in the professional development of Fire Officers, especially in the areas of professional ethics and research. That interest inspired the authoring of textbooks in both subjects. As a young man, he developed a deep love for literature and storytelling. That love affair with creative writing was ignored for many years but always remained. Soon after his retirement he returned to his roots and began writing. Combining his passion for the fire service, and for writing dramatic fiction seemed a natural choice. As a result, he has embarked on a series of novels intended to humanize"America's Bravest."
