Dr. George Kassianos MD (Hons), FRCGP, DRCOG, DFP(RCOG), LRCP (Edin.), LRCS (Edin.), LRCP&S (Glasg.), DMAcup, DMHypn, MILT, is Greek Cypriot and studied medicine in Poland with a scholarship from the 'International Union of Students'. During his medical school years he was involved in research in infectious disease, especially hepatitis B. He trained as a GP at the London Hammersmith and St. Mary's Hospitals before joining his present practice in Bracknell, Berkshire in 1979, where he is the Executive Partner. He is a founder member and Hon. Secretary of 'The British Travel Health Association', member of 'The International Society of Travel Medicine', Board Member of 'The Primary Care Virology Group'. He is a member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Dr Kassianos lectures widely on vaccines and travel health and has written the book 'Immunization: Childhood and Travel Health' published by Blackwell Publishing. A second book on 'Managing Infections in Pregnancy and Lactation' is in print. He writes extensively in the medical press and is a member of the 'British Medical Journalists' Association. Also, past editor of the journals 'Audit in General Practice', 'Care of the Elderly', and 'Managing Heart Failure in General Practice'. He is currently serving as member of editorial boards of journals, such as 'Travel Medicine in Practice', 'The British Journal of Cardiology', 'International Journal of Clinical Practice', and is the GP editorial consultant for the journal 'Guidelines in Practice'. He is also Editor in Chief of the International Journal 'Drugs in Context'. He is a board member of 'Neurolink', 'Action for Stroke Group', and Chairman of the Professional Executive Committee of the Bracknell Forest Primary Care Trust. He was GP Tutor in East Berkshire from 1989 to 2001 and is now the spokesperson on Immunisation for the Royal College of General Practitioners, which awarded him the Fellowship in 1999. See less
