Gene Atkinson

Dr. Gene Atkinson is an Orangeburg dentist and local historian. He has been recognized for his civic endeavors, his historical collections on Orangeburg and his contributions to dentistry. Dr. Atkinson has authored two pictorial histories on Orangeburg and has served on numerous local committees and boards. Dr. Gene Atkinson is an Orangeburg dentist and local historian. He has been recognized for his civic endeavors, his historical collections on Orangeburg and his contributions to dentistry. Dr. Atkinson has authored two pictorial histories on Orangeburg and has served on numerous local committees and boards. He chaired the Stevenson Auditorium Renovation Committee and raised the funds to do this glorious revitalization. This grand old city venue won much acclaim after a five-year renovation, including the South Carolina Downtown Association's award for the best downtown building restoration in South Carolina in 2001. In 2004, Dr. Atkinson was named as Orangeburg's Citizen of the Year for his many contributions to Orangeburg life. He is an avid hiker and takes groups on expeditions to many of America's national parks. See less
