Following his playing days, Gary Keating joined his father on the bench as a basketball coach. After his graduation from St. John's University, New York, Gary became an assistant men's college basketball coach at the age of 23. After his graduation from St. John's University, New York, Gary became an assistant men's college basketball coach at the age of 23. He would step away from coaching to help his father who had Parkinson's disease. Later, at the age of 38, exactly 6 months to the day after his father had passed away, Gary was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's. Since then he has participated in several research studies to help better assess the disease. Gary is a three time American Writing Award Finalist.
