Judith Friedlander has done anthropological research in Mexico, the American Southwest and France. She is best known for the widely acclaimed first edition of "Being Indian in Hueyapan" and "Vilna on the Seine: Jewish Intellectuals in France Since 1968." Since 1972, Judith Friedlander has taught Anthropology at SUNY Purchase, Hunter College/the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and the New School of Social Research. She has also served as Dean at these three institutions.
