Leading up to a life-long career in journalism, she worked as a translator and interpreter for US government agencies in Rio. In Hollywood she was hired by Walt Disney as story researcher, and served as a Hollywood Foreign Press correspondent before starting her 40-year career as staff writer and columnist for the Los Angeles Times. She traveled worldwide with her husband (photo-journalist Leonard Nadel) on magazine assignments -- living with a Stone Age tribe in New Guinea; following medical missionaries in the Amazon, Africa; traveling with Bedouin tribes in the Negev Desert; hiking in the Himalayas; posting stories from Australia, New Zealand; Ethiopia; doing the life story of a geisha in Japan, and traveling through Egypt, Israel and Lebanon. Her eclectic background includes her consulting firm Creative Backup. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women and picked up a few awards along the way, but says: "my most gratifying achievement was performing as honorary clown with Ringling Brothers Circus and leading the Clown Band at its 100th anniversary celebration. She lives in Hollywood, CA, has two children, two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. See less
