Eugenie Fernandes graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Since then, she has written over 80 books, including Lavender Moon (1997) and A Cat in a Kayak (1998). Her paintings from Earth Magic and One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference are at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art. She lives in Peterborough, Ontario.
