Erich Maria Remarque (1898-1970) est l'un des auteurs allemands les plus lus au monde. Il s'exile des 1931 et la nationalite allemande lui est retiree en 1938. Apres de longs sejours aux Etats-Unis ou il frequente le Tout-Hollywood, il finit par rentrer en Europe a la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
