Edward Eggleston

Edward Eggleston (December 10, 1837 - September 3, 1902) was a novelist and historian from the United States. Eggleston was born to Joseph Cary Eggleston and Mary Jane Craig in Vevay, Indiana. His brother was the author George Cary Eggleston. He was too sick as a child to frequently attend school; therefore, his father was mostly responsible for his education. Edward Eggleston (December 10, 1837 - September 3, 1902) was a novelist and historian from the United States. Eggleston was born to Joseph Cary Eggleston and Mary Jane Craig in Vevay, Indiana. His brother was the author George Cary Eggleston. He was too sick as a child to frequently attend school; therefore, his father was mostly responsible for his education. In 1856, he was ordained as a Methodist minister. He wrote a variety of stories, some of which, particularly the "Hoosier" series, drew a lot of attention. The Hoosier Schoolmaster, The Hoosier Schoolboy, The End of the World, The Faith Doctor, and Queer Stories for Boys and Girls are among them. He contributed numerous articles to the children's magazine The Little Corporal and served as its editor in 1866. He accepted a higher-paying editorial position at The Sunday School Teacher in December 1866. In 1893, Eggleston was elected to the American Antiquarian Society. See less
