John and Durrae Johanek start out all their trips from Bozeman, Montana. When they're not exploring the four corners of the state, they have real jobs. To keep the family car's gas tank topped of, John is a magazine design consultant and partner in Ayers/Johanek Publication Design, Inc. He also writes a regular column for Editors Only and is a frequent contributor to Folio and other publishing trade magazines. Durrae keeps herself occupied by working eight days a week as an editorial freelancer. She lives with her four cats, two goats, and John, not necessarily in that order. She has a B.A. in English from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and has written several nature-related magazine articles appearing in Bird Watcher's Digest and Popular Mechanics. Their appetite for Montana is as big as the state itself. They enjoy birding, wildlife watching, and cross-country skiing. Whenever they can, they take to the back roads in search of all three, and even a gumbo road or two. Kurt Keller is a commercial and fine art photographer living in Helena, Montana. He enjoys lazy summer afternoons with a fly rod in hand and spending time with his two sons and wife. He has been photographing the people, places, and spirit of Montana for the past 10 years.
