Douglas lives in Markham, Ontario, with his spouse, Sara. He is a licensed insurance broker in Ontario through RIBO and is certified by the John Maxwell Organization for speaking and coaching. He also holds a Risk Management Designation (CRM) in Ontario. When he's not writing, Douglas enjoys working in his yard, woodworking, often giving new life to old furniture and window frames.
