Donald Greco was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to an Irish mother and Italian father. He grew up speaking Italian with his extended family, all males of which worked in the region's steel mills. Donald Greco was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to an Irish mother and Italian father. He grew up speaking Italian with his extended family, all males of which worked in the region's steel mills. Greco draws upon his life in Ohio's Mahoning Valley, and its remarkably diverse cultures, to write his novels about ordinary people with extraordinary lives. Dracaena Marginata continues the Youngstown Quintet series that his previous novels, Abramo's Gift and Tommy the Quarterback began. After graduating from The Ohio State University, with a major in mathematics, he's spent four decades earning advanced degrees, acquiring tenure, and teaching. Today, he is a retired University of Toledo mathematics professor, who quietly, and continually writes novels.
