He was a senior staff scientist at the National Academy of Sciences--National Research Council from 1962 to 1988. His industrial experience has included work as an advanced system specialist in ocean science and engineering. A U.S. Naval Reserve Officer, Commander Groves served on active duty in Naval Engineering and Research both in the United States and overseas.
