Diana Jessie began sailing in 1974, skippering an all-woman's racing crew on San Francisco Bay. She has raced in numerous women's events as well as the St. Francis Big Boat Series, TransPacific, and numerous offshore races. Diana Jessie began sailing in 1974, skippering an all-woman's racing crew on San Francisco Bay. She has raced in numerous women's events as well as the St. Francis Big Boat Series, TransPacific, and numerous offshore races. From 1985 to 1992 she circumnavigated aboard, the 48-foot, cold-molded Lapworth sloop she owns with her husband, Jim. They visited six continents and 57 countries, crossing the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans. Diana and Jim have also sailed the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Red, and Black Seas, circumnavigated Australia, and sailed the Southern Ocean. In 1997 they were once again cruising aboard "Nalu IV." Diana's articles have appeared in "SAIL, Yachting, Sailing, WoodenBoat, 48 Degrees North, Yachting World," and "Seahorse." She is the 1990 and 1992 recipient of the St. Francis Yacht Club Mary Grandin Cruising Award and a Senior Race Officer of the United States Sailing Association. She has given seminars on heavy-weather sailing, safety at sea, and cruise management; her specialty is seminars to help women overcome fear and learn to enjoy sailing. See less
