Deborah Whaley is associate professor of American studies and African American studies at the University of Iowa. She is author of Disciplining Women: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Black Counterpublics, and the Cultural Politics of Black Sororities (SUNY Press, 2010) and many book chapters and journal articles.
