As of 2016 David T. Smith has chaired the gin judging American Distilling Institute, Worlds Best Drinks and Gin Masters competitions. He also judges for IWSC as their gin specialist and is member of the American Distillers Institute, The International Gin Association (IGA) and The Drinks Writer's Guild. He is the winner of Think Gin: 2016 Communicator of Year, awarded by Harpers, the leading drinks trade magazine.
