David Edwin Harrell Jr. is Daniel F. Breeden Eminent Scholar in the Humanities at Auburn University. He has published seven books on American religious history, including the two-volume Social History of the Disciples of Christ and such pioneering studies of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements as All Things Are Possible: The Healing and Charismatic Revivals in Modern America and Oral Roberts: An American Life. He received his undergraduate degree from David Lipscomb College (now Lipscomb University) and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, and has taught at, among others, East Tennessee State University, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Georgia, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
