DAVID BURROUGHS was already a qualified teacher when he gained a degree in education and social science from the Open University. He has taught in primary, secondary and special schools in both the private and public sectors. He had been head teacher in three primary schools before going into the ministry, first as Pastor of Trumpington Free Church and then as Associate Minister of Cambridge Community Church, one of the most vibrant churches in the UK. David and his wife, Val, trained with, and worked for, Care for the Family, presenting weekend courses for couples throughout the east of England. He then wrote his own relationship syllabus to create a 12-week evening class called You, Me and Us. This took place termly in Cambridge over an 11-year period. During that time the material was scientifically evaluated and shown to increase relationship satisfaction for all participating couples. Wanting to reach a wider audience, David wrote LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS AS YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE. This self-help book shows how becoming securely attached is the best way to ensure a happy relationship. In the book format, a built-in strategy ensures that the material - ideally read at the rate of a chapter-a-week - can be as effective for readers at home as for participants in the classroom. When couples know that they can depend on their partners to be there for them, which is what secure attachment achieves, they can build the relationship of their dreams. They are rightly confident that they can overcome any problems they encounter. This experience is not common in UK relationships today where between 40 and 50% of couples separate or divorce. This causes a great deal of personal trauma and, in 2015, cost the country an estimated GBP47bn. And that's not all: Not only do many children experience trauma when their parents split up, they are left with no role model of family life on which to build their own relationships. Consequently, problems are perpetuated from generation to generation. This book seeks to break this cycle where it exists. The programme not only shows how any couple can create their dream relationship, it also shows how they can bring security to their children. . See less
