In 1997, Dan West began setting out on railroad-station hunting trips in Pennsylvania with a friend, which led to the creation of the website Pennsylvania Railroad Stations Past & Present. Over the course of 20 years, the site has evolved to become the primary catalog for all known existing and former stations in the state.
