Colleen McDannell is a professor of history and Sterling M. McMurrin professor of religious studies at the University of Utah. Recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, McDannell is a specialist in American religions focusing on how average people understand and make sense out of religion. Her book The Spirit of Vatican II: Catholic Reform in America and her edited volume Catholics in the Movies have established her as a leading interpreter of Catholicism in the United States.
