After leaving newspapers, she held top communications jobs at the Senate Banking Committee, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. She served as a volunteer and consultant in public affairs with the American Red Cross, reporting on responses to natural disasters from hurricane Katrina to tornadoes in Enterprise, Alabama, and Joplin, Missouri.In August 1993, Christi joined the First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, D.C., where her journalism skills of taking notes and writing were suited to years of service as church clerk and volunteer communications director.
