Charles Young was born in New Britain, Connecticut. After finishing high school in 1943, he entered a naval program at Harvard University. He later served in the Marine Corps during the battle for Okinawa in World War II. Following the war, he attended Central Connecticut State University and later transferred to Columbia University where he received a BA and an MA. Charles Young was born in New Britain, Connecticut. After finishing high school in 1943, he entered a naval program at Harvard University. He later served in the Marine Corps during the battle for Okinawa in World War II. Following the war, he attended Central Connecticut State University and later transferred to Columbia University where he received a BA and an MA. He then spent a year in a PhD program at Yale University. In 1967 he moved to Athens, Greece, with his wife Marcie and their three children, Tina, Fay, and Charles. There he taught at Athens College. In 1978, following the death of his wife, he moved to the island of Hydra, pursued his writing and taught at the National Maritime Academy. See less
