Charles Simic was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and immigrated to the United States in 1954, where he later graduated from New York University. His work has won numerous awards such as the 1990 Pulitzer Prize, the MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant," the Griffin International Poetry Prize, and the Wallace Stevens Award. In 2007, he was appointed as the 15th Poet Laureate of the United States. He has taught English and creative writing for over 30 years at the University of New Hampshire, where he is Professor Emeritus. See less
