Cathy Breisacher has been a member of the Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators since 2000. She is also the contact person for membership questions for the Western PA SCBWI chapter. Petunia Peppers Picture Day, which won a contest at the Eastern PA SCBWI Writers Conference, is her first picture book to be published. Cathy enjoyed writing stories when she was in elementary school and recalls an English assignment where she had to write and illustrate a childrens book for younger students. She still has that very first book, albeit tattered and torn. Her fascination with fun, humorous, and meaningful childrens books continued through college. Her masters thesis paper dealt with the positive effects of bibliotherapy and other creative therapies in dealing with childrens self esteem. She had the opportunity to present this paper, along with one of her graduate professors, at the American School Counselors Association Annual Conference in Pittsburgh in 1996. Cathy graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelors and Masters Degree along with a certification in school counseling. She then completed a writing course through the Institute for Childrens Literature. Cathy belonged to an online writers critique group for a year and attends writers workshops, conferences, and critique sessions every year. Cathy simply loves picture books and spends time in libraries and book stores browsing the picture book shelves. Cathy and her husband, Chuck, are the youth leaders at their church. They enjoy writing youth lessons and skits. They have adapted some Christmas plays that their teens performed for the congregation. A couple of years ago, Cathy and her husband had an idea printed in Group Magazine, a Christian publication for youth leaders. Recently, they finished writing a 10 Lesson Youth Leader Resource which is a compilation of 10 Love Lessons in the Bible. See less
