Carla M Palumbo has a distinguished record of service in law, government and community activities. She has been an attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Rochester since 1984 and Director of the Civil Division since 1990. Included within the Civil Division are the following units: Health Education and Law Partnership, Family Law Unit, Housing Unit and Immigration Unit. Throughout her tenure at the Legal Aid Society, Ms. Palumbo has focused on program development from both a substantive and financial perspective. She provides direct client representation to victims of domestic violence. Ms. Palumbo has conducted numerous trainings and seminars in the area of domestic violence, including the Rule of Law program in Russia. In addition, Ms. Palumbo currently serves as a member of the Rochester City Council representing the Northwest District of Rochester. She served as Minority Leader of the Monroe County Legislature and a member of the County Legislature for 5 years. She is Vice-Chair of the Board of the Rochester Arts and Culture Council and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Bar Foundation. She received her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, in 1982 and her Bachelor's of Art degree in Spanish and Italian from SUNY at Albany in 1979. She is the recipient of the 1999 NYS Bar Association Public Interest Law Award and the 2000 YWCA Women First Award. See less
