Blai Bonet was born in Santany?, Mallorca, in 1926. A severe case of tuberculosis forced him to abandon his seminary education, but his confinement to a sanatorium led to the composition of his masterpiece, "The Sea," which won the Joanot Martorell Prize in 1957, and was adapted into an acclaimed film in 2000. Bonet died in 1997.
