Björn Johansson, MD PhD, Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology, Associate professor and senior staff member at the Department of Ophthalmology, Linköping University Hospital, Sweden, studied medicine at the universities of Uppsala and Linköping. Ophthalmogical and surgical training took place in Linköping. Since 1990 he has performed 15000+ cataract operations. For more than 15 years he has been trainer for new cataract surgeons at Linköping University Hospital. After defending his thesis in the field of electrophysiology, focus in research has been cataract surgery outcomes and Immediate Sequential Bilateral Cataract Surgery, ISBCS, which he started to perform in 1999. In around 50% of regular cataract cases he plans ISBCS. Previously secretary of the Swedish Ophthalmological Society he serves in the society's specialist exam work group and also co-authors the national Swedish curriculum for education of new cataract surgeons. He is member of the American, European and Scandinavian Societies for Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club and the International Society for Bilateral Cataract & Refractive Surgeons.
