Maeve Binchy grew up in Ireland. She took a history degree at University College Dublin and in 1969 she joined "The Irish Times. She is the author of many international bestsellers including Echoes," Firefly Summer and Circle of Friends. She is married to writer and broadcaster Gordon Snell. Born in Dublin, she now lives in Ireland and London. She announced her retirement from writing in May 2000.
