Balthazar Ayala

BALTHAZAR AYALA (1548-1584) was born to Spanish parents and educated in law, later becoming a professor and military judge in the Netherlands. Considered an important forerunner to Grotius, Ayala heavily influenced international law through his position as military judge at the start of the Eighty Years' War between the Low Countries and Spain, and through his treatise De Jure Et Officiis Bellicis Et Disciplina Militari Libri III (1582).
