Arturo Jaime Fernandez is a writer, teatro actor, and youth advocate. In 2010, he founded the, "Leer Para Crecer" (Read to Grow) early literacy bilingual celebration for underserved Latino families. The event, which the Oakley Union Elementary School District adopted, is celebrating its 12th year, and has put over 20,000 books in children's hands. Arturo Jaime Fernandez is a writer, teatro actor, and youth advocate. In 2010, he founded the, "Leer Para Crecer" (Read to Grow) early literacy bilingual celebration for underserved Latino families. The event, which the Oakley Union Elementary School District adopted, is celebrating its 12th year, and has put over 20,000 books in children's hands. He has dedicated the past 25 years to youth rehabilitation as a Probation Counselor Supervisor for the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility. In 2011, for his dedication to empowering at-risk youth, he was given the Contra Costa County Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention award. In 2013, for his continued efforts in serving the Latino community, he was awarded the Los Medanos College Cesar Chavez Award for exemplary community service. He has a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco and is currently completing his Masters of Science degree in Educational Counseling. He is currently working as a School Counselor at Delta Vista Middle School in Oakley, CA. Several of his comedic nonfiction essays have been published in the anthology "In Mt. Diablo's Shadow."
