Anthony Marais was born in Hollywood the year Walt Disney died. His childhood was spent in Huntington Beach and Belmont Shore, doing what Californians do best: having a good time and not worrying about the future. In the 1980s he co-founded the Los Angeles pop group The Squids, a career move that effectively ended his future. He therefore went to Berkeley and found a new one. An anthropologist and avid film collector, he claims to be on a campaign to promote dreaming and escapism as the only hope for achieving self-actualisation. The result has been a vagabond lifestyle of writing between Polynesia, Canada, France, Germany and California - one that has, as yet, brought him nowhere near self-actualisation. He openly admits to loving both San Francisco and LA, the former in his opinion being archetypically Californian and the latter quintessentially American. Be that as it may, he claims its the tacos that keep him coming back. See less
