ANITA DEFRANTZ, who captained the U.S. women's rowing team and rowed in the eight that won a bronze medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, is currently the seventh-ranking member in seniority of the International Olympic Committee, where she serves on the Executive Board. She has been a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors since 1978. For nearly three decades she also served as president of the LA84 Foundation, which began after the Los Angeles hosted the Olympics and serves more than 3 million children in Southern California through youth sports programs. She was inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame in 2010. DeFrantz holds a B.A. from Connecticut College and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from several college and universities, including Pepperdine University, Mount Holyoke College, and Pomona College.
