Andrew Samuel is honorary research professor in engineering design in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Melbourne. Since his appointment in 1970 he has developed a structured-problem-based undergraduate learning environment. His research interests have encompassed engineering design, engineering education and robot kinematics. In his career at Melbourne he has attracted over 1.5 million AuD in competitive government and industry research grants. He has supervised 14 Master of Engineering Science research graduates and 7 PhD graduates all by thesis. Andrew Samuela (TM)s publication list cites over 100 articles in refereed international journals and National and International conference proceedings, 11 books or chapters of books, 11 invited articles or seminar presentations, over 100 industrial reports and submissions, 5 provisional patents and 5 video tape/ film script productions. His latest publication (with John Weir) is Introduction to Engineering Design: Modelling, Synthesis and Problem Solving Strategies, 2/e (Butterworth-Heinemann, 0-7506-4282-3, 1999, 405 pp, SC, A27.99) which has been adopted as a freshman undergraduate text in several universities and colleges worldwide.
