Andrei Grachev , the former political adviser and last official spokesman of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, is a Russian political analyst and journalist. He was born in Moscow in 1941 and graduated in History from the Moscow Institute of International relations. After the failure of the August 1991 coup in Moscow, he was appointed assistant and official Spokesman of the President of the USSR until his resignation in December 1991. He has taught as a Visiting Professor at the Sorbonne in Paris and Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, and was a Senior Researcher at St Antony's College, Oxford.
