About Andre Willis Born June 7, 1959, Andre Willis is the second son to a single mother named Lola Mae Willis. With no support system, and two children to care for, Lola experienced the discrimination of a single mother during the late 50s. While still an infant, Andre was given to an older couple who couldn't have children of their own. Not long after, Andre proved to be a burden for the couple, so they in turn gave him to another couple - Mr. Willie and Mrs. Lillian Green. The new parents did their very best to offer Andre a productive life, yet there were no other boys in the area for young Andre to play with. He soon began yearning for the company of peers, and began hanging around other boys who broke rules and failed to conform to the expectations of society. Without any support or structure, Andre molded himself into the ways of the negative environment which surrounded him. Consequently, Andre found himself incarcerated time and time again. The more he was incarcerated, the more he matured, adopting a different level of life that offered him a means to maintain. His career of going to jail and prison started in 1977. Therefore, he has seen and experienced more than his share of trials and tribulations. He has witnessed all kinds of emotions and experienced a few. Yet, God has allowed him to remain strong both physically and mentally. Soon after obtaining his GED, Andre began to see himself as adequate and confident. However, due to society's prejudice against ex-offenders, he struggled to find jobs and employment opportunities. Through his writings, Andre found a productive means of demonstrating his energies and emotions.
