Abdon Ubidia , born in Quito, Ecuador in 1944, sprang to fame in 1979 when his collection of stories, Bajo el mismo extrano cielo , won the pretigious Jose Mejia prize for best fiction, an award the author received again in 1986 for this title, which critics called the novel of the decade.
