His father, Charles Altamont Doyle, settled in England, of Irish Catholic plummet, and his mother, Mary (née Foley), was Irish Catholic. His parents got married in 1855. In 1864, the family dissipated due to Charles' developing liquor addiction, and the children were briefly housed across Edinburgh. Arthur stayed with Mary Burton, the aunt of a companion, at Liberton Bank House on Gilmer ton Road and continued studying at Newington Academy. Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan was a British essayist and doctor. He was the man behind the creation of the famous fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for 'A Study in Scarlet'.
