Schon seit jeher in dem Zwang, sich mit der Natur zu arrangieren, war man auch hierbei auf die Kr???fte und das "Wohlwollen" der See angewiesen, denn das Segelschiff war anfangs das einzige Transportmittel. So stellte die Erfindung der Dampfkraft und ihre Einf???hrung in der Schifffahrt nicht nur einen technologischen Sprung dar, sondern hob zumindest einen Teil dieser Abh???ngigkeit von den Kr???ften der Natur auf. Der Transport von Waren, Touristen und Einwohnern wurde einfacher und verl???sslicher. Aber trotzdem wurde es oftmals schwer, den Fahrplan einzuhalten, denn Wind und Wetter sorgten auch weiterhin mit extremem Niedrigwasser oder Eisgang f???r Probleme, die auch ein Raddampfer kaum l???sen konnte. Abgerundet wird das Buch mit neuen Rechercheergebnissen ???ber den Verbleib der "Freya", denn nach der Fertigstellung des Hindenburgdammes im Jahre 1927 wurde der Linienschiffsverkehr eingestellt, und der Raddampfer startete als "Eva" in L???beck und sp???ter als "Grenzland" in Tilsit in einen neuen Lebensabschnitt. Im Jahr 1966 endet das "Leben" des Schiffes dann unr???hmlich (von Menschenhand) mit dem Untergang in einem Waal-Nebenarm in Holland.
