Signed to film producer Martin Ransohoff on half title page, "For Marty & Joan: This book is getting a little more civilized-but you're still in it! Warmly Jim Houston Dec. 1998." The book and dust jacket are in very good condition with very slight shelf wear. Interior is clean and tight. James Houston (1921-2005) was a Canadian artist, designer, children's author and filmmaker who played an important role in the recognition of Inuit art and introduced printmaking to the Inuit. The Inuit named him Saumik, which means "the left-handed one". Ransohoff produced and adapted the film based on his book, White Dawn which appeared in 1974 starring Warren Oates, Timothy Bottoms and Louis Gossett Jr. Martin Ransohoff (1927-2017) was an American film and television producer. His early TV successes (Beverly Hillbillies and Mr. Ed) enabled him to produce movies like The Americanization of Emily, The Sandpiper, The Cincinnati Kid, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Ice Station Zebra, Castle Keep, Catch-22, Silver Streak, and Jagged Edge among others.
